Crisis Leadership Competency Model

This model was designed following a study to identify what were the most needed competencies in leadership when it comes to leading through crisis.



Depending on your perspective, you might wish to review how you/your organisation’s leadership competencies were applied during the pandemic. Indeed, this might be a useful time to consider which of these competencies you can apply now as we head towards pandemic recovery.

Try this leadership activity, consider your approach over the past 12 months and rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 for your performance in each competency area.

Next, take a step back and look through the eyes of those whom you lead, what score would they give?

Finally, look through the lens of your external stakeholders, for example, your customers, shareholders, the press, etc. What score would they apply?

It’s a useful time to reflect on where you are applying these competencies and praise your progress, as well as look at gaps and how they can be bridged.
